The Pawa Collagen – Temghar MTB Challenge 2019, organized by Backpack Outdoors, Rolling Academy and Mumbai MTB Offroaders at Camp Hideout, Temghar Dam Backwaters near Pune saw mountain bikers going full force on prime dirt trails.

2019’s season opener, the Temghar MTB Challenge included over 45 participants from Pune, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Nashik and Indore. India’s DH and XC national/state champions were in action over the weekend.

The XC riders described the tracks (XCO and XCC) to be challenging, technical as well as scenic as one part of the track was along the backwaters of Temghar Dam. The Downhill track was full of berms and the riders were having fun going sideways and taking jumps. Some steep sections added to the challenge as it was a game of control and flow.

Cross Country Olympic (30 km) had some steep climbs and technical sections added with a challenging 200 m of elevation gain in 4 km. Vitthal Bhosale from Pune managed to complete the circuit in just 1 hr and 25 min followed by Eshaan Sharma (1 hr 31 min) and Shubham Singh (1 hr 40 min), both from Mumbai. The same trio took the podium of Cross Country Circuit which was 8 km high speed sprint.

National Champ Slade Gomes took the full-sus podium with his fierce run in just 1 min 2 sec. Rishabh Gowda from Bangalore finished 2nd with 1 min 4 sec and Abhijeet Gharad almost caught him up with 1 min 5 sec to take the third.

The Hard Tail action was no less than the full suspension runs. Shashank CK from Bangalore, in spite of getting 2 stiches on practice day, climbed up speedily to the top spot clocking 1 min 8 sec. Similar was the case with Sreevishal Balipati from Pune, who single handed (quite literally) took the 2nd with his swollen wrist from a fall during practice, as the clock stopped at 1 min 11 sec. Sahil Sehgal of Pune smoothly joined the ranks with a 3rd finishing his run in 1 min 14 sec.
