Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival is a celebration of traditional roots along with today’s lifestyle. Team “Trail Hounds Cycling Club” from Mokokchung, Nagaland has been hosting a fun gathering of mountain bikers since 2016 in their hometown of Mokokchung, as part of the Hornbill Festival. The 3rd Mokokchung Mountain Bike Festival – Downhill race on the forest slopes, blazed up the generally calm town.
A 2kms long trail through the dense forest took the racers over mud steps, hairpin turns and roots, keeping the racer “on the edge” literally, as many sections were on the edge of the hill slope. With surprises down the course with orange trees, wall rides and hunters hunting goose, the Mokokchung DH trail kept the racer pinned. The only issue was to slow down!
While most riders spilled out of the course in their final runs, in “Elites Category” Maharashtra’s Gautam Taode stayed clipped in to take the lead over Meghalaya’s young ripper, Apshai Niangti Griffith (2nd), closely followed by Assam’s Ismamul Howk in 3rd.
