The Assam Downhill Championship 2018, was a first of it’s kind in the region, held on the Garchuk hills, Nalapara in Guwahati. The mountain town saw a large number of participants from the northeastern states of India along with strong riders from Himachal Pradesh.
Here are the highlights from a weekend of racing and good times.
Assam Downhill Championship is an initiative of Spokehub Racing to promote mountain biking in the Northeast.
The current track designed by the team, gives local riders an opportunity to test their downhill skills on an unforgiving trail right in the heart of Guwahati. With about 80 meters of elevation difference, technical natural obstacles and fun jumps, this trail is one of the best downhill courses in Guwahati.
The team is also collaborating with other mountain biking communities across the Northeast and working on a local ranking system and a race calendar, for riders across the Northeast of India.
The championship was divided into two categories, hardtail and full suspension. A good turnout of 42 riders came in from all over the NE. With 31 competitors in the Hardtail and 11 in Full Suspension Category.
Northeast is blessed with good terrain for mountain biking. Off late we’ve seeing a good number of MTB events coming up here. With local bike shops stepping in with technical expertise and brands supporting the events, things are looking positive for mountain biking in the Northeast.
